At the Monday, July 16th Regular Meeting of Mayor and Council, Joanna Budries of the Fanwood Recreation Commission was named Volunteer of the Month. Joanna has been a volunteer commissioner since 2012 and involved in the planning of all of the Recreation Department’s signature events including the Easter Egg Hunt, movie night in the park and the annual 5K race. Her interest in tennis made her especially valuable in the recent rehabilitation of the LaGrande Park tennis courts. Mayor Colleen Mahr and Councilman Anthony Carter presented Joanna with a print of the historic Fanwood train station as a token of appreciation of her volunteer efforts.

Additionally at the Council Meeting, Mayor Mahr also announced that following the signing of the new state budget by Governor Murphy and a redistribution of school aid, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District will receive an additional $396,000 in state aid. The district has the option of recalculating its budget to apply that aid to reduce our school tax. Mayor Mahr and the Fanwood Council urged the Board of Education to do just that.
