Restoration work is continuing on the Fanwood Historic Train Station. Workers this week removed a first floor window to perform the restoration in a workshop off-site before continuing with the rest of the first floor windows. Workers will also be repairing damaged wood, removing multiple layers of paint and fully repainting the building’s exterior, and proactively addressing minor structural concerns. The lead architect for the project is Fanwood resident Michael De Biasse of De Biasse & Seminara. Paragon Restoration Corporation is the contractor.

The train station was built in 1874 in the popular Victorian Carpenter Gothic style and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It holds the distinction of being the oldest train station in Union County. Fanwood received a $500,000 state grant in support of this project.
