The Patricia M. Kuran Cultural Arts Center, also known as the Carriage House, is named after Fanwood’s first female Mayor who was a champion of the arts in our town. The historic building has been renovated over the years and is a jewel of Fanwood’s historic district. The Center is now the home of the live Performance Series and regular poetry readings. The Performance Series features local and regional musicians live on stage at the Patricia M. Kuran Cultural Arts Center. Concerts are typically Saturday nights at 7:00 PM.

A New Play Celebrating Halloween (Jersey-style)
To celebrate Halloween, nonprofit Jersey Central Theatre Company will be performing a staged reading of a new play, featuring some New Jersey lore, on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25th, 3:00 PM, at the Patricia M. Kuran Cultural Arts Center (The Carriage House) next to Fanwood Borough Hall.

Deep in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey reportedly lives a beast so horrible, so monstrous, its very name strikes fear into the hearts of those who have seen or heard of it.
In 1820, “Piney” Jane is desperate to unravel the mysteries of the Jersey Devil. Who joins her search but the exiled king of Spain (and older brother to Napoleon), Joseph Bonaparte.
Will they find the beast? Will they survive?
The cast will feature members of Actors’ Equity Association, the professional actors’ union.
Connor McKenna is a playwright, dramaturg, and musical book writer. He is a graduate of NYU Tisch with a BFA in dramatic writing and double major in linguistics. He has written six full-length plays and several shorter one-acts. His work has been performed with the Young Americans Theatre Company, Imaginarium NY, and Little & Fierce Theatre Company.
Doors will open at 2:30 PM. Suggested cash contribution is $10.00 per person. No reservations; limited open seating.

Carriage House Poetry Series
Fanwood poets Tom Plante and Adele Kenny, directors of the Poetry Series
The Carriage House Poetry Series was established in December of 1998. The initiative began as a project funded in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State, through a grant administered by the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
The Carriage House Series is pleased to feature a wide range of internationally-known poets, Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award, and Pushcart Prize winners, and numerous local and regional poets. All readings are free and open to the public. Most readings include an open mic after the feature, and audience members are invited to share their poems.
Fanwood Poet Laureate publishes 1,00th work
Adele Kenny has long been a source of pride for Fanwood as a widely published poet and the town’s Poet Laureate. With the latest edition of the magazine Exit 13, Adele has published her 1,000th poem, a milestone that speaks to her creativity and dedication to the written word.
She has been writing, teaching writing and publishing her work for decades. She’s been an English teacher and a poetry judge. Here in Fanwood she is best known for curating the Carriage House Poetry Series which, along with poetry partner Tom Plante has brought regional poets to Fanwood’s Carriage House for more than twenty years, treating welcoming audiences to the beauty of written and spoken words.
