The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Northern New Jersey including Union County from 2 pm through late tonight due to flooding caused by excessive rainfall. A period of heavy rainfall is possible as showers and thunderstorms move through the area late this afternoon and evening. Peak hourly rainfall amounts could reach 2 to 2.5 inches. Average rainfall amounts are expected to be between 1.5 and 2.5 inches with higher amounts possible locally. Excessive rainfall may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other flood-prone and poor drainage locations.

Please remain vigilant and avoid traveling through flooded areas and do not drive around barriers. Do not drive through standing water. Keep children and pets away from fast-moving water.
