The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders would like to remind you of several free recycling events coming up in August.

Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling continues in August with events on the first Thursday (August 4) and third Saturday (August 20) of each month. There are three locations in Union County for residents to drop off their metal for recycling, one in Cranford, one in Rahway, and one in Westfield. All locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture to name a few.

Union County will host a Household Hazardous Waste Event is on Saturday August 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Union County Vo Tech School located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. Car tires will also be accepted (maximum of 8 tires). Ammunition and fireworks will also be collected at this event.

Union County will host a Mobile Paper Shredding Event on Saturday August 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be at Kean University, 1000 Morris Avenue, in the parking lot on the corner of Green Lane directly across from the Union Train Station. Residents can bring up to four bags of confidential documents for shredding.
