A Message from Mayor Mahr

Earlier today, the state reported another 3,528 confirmed COVID-positive test results, bringing the statewide total to 88,806. The current total in Union County is 9,972 and in Fanwood, we now have 56 confirmed cases. Unfortunately, two more Chelsea residents have passed from COVID-19, both with underlying conditions. The Westfield Regional Health Department is in close contact with the Chelsea, speaking with them throughout each day to ensure the health and safety of residents and staff. Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the staff of the Chelsea.

Tonight’s Regular Meeting of Mayor and Council will proceed as scheduled via video and telephone conference.  Members of the public can still listen and participate by following the instructions below.  To view the meeting agenda, please click here.

Again, I’d like to remind our entire community that if you are in need of assistance or have assistance to offer, please contact me directly at mayor@fanwoodnj.org.

NJ DOL Claims for Contractors

For independent contractors, self-employed workers, gig workers, and sole proprietors- here an update on the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program relief options available to you right now, and what’s coming down the pipeline.

First: the Department of Labor has released a Frequently Asked Questions document answering questions asked by self-employed workers, independent contractors, and gig workers regarding relief options that are available. It includes an explanation of PUA, a discussion of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, and details on records and documents that you will need to qualify for relief.

The Department of Labor also released a guide to filing a PUA claim as an independent contractor, self-employed worker, or gig worker. It contains information about documents and information that you will need to provide to qualify.

Currently, the PUA application is not available. The Department of Labor is working around the clock to make the new PUA benefits system available, but until implementation is complete, I encourage everyone to start the process of qualifying for PUA today.
