A Message from Mayor Mahr

Earlier today, the state reported another 989 COVID-19 positive test results, bringing the statewide total to 140,743. Union County currently has a total of 14,203 confirmed cases.

In speaking with the Westfield Regional Board of Health we learned of one additional positive case in Fanwood, for a total of 86. However, there are some good indications that your efforts at social distancing are working!  Health officials are seeing encouraging downward trends. Study of the statewide test results show:

  • At the peak of the state outbreak, there were 4,500 individuals testing positive every day, today, less than 1,000 individuals tested positive
  • At the peak of the state outbreak, the percentage of folks testing positive, or the “positivity rate” was 60%.  Today’s “positivity rate” is 25%

Although it is clear we are still not out of the woods, it is also clear that what you are doing is working.  As weary as we all are of social distancing, your efforts are paying off, so keep it up and we’ll see this through together!

Please make note that tomorrow is the deadline for you to file your Party Affiliation if you wish to participate in the primary election of your choice. Please see links below.

As you are aware, Fanwood and Scotch Plains have canceled our Memorial Day Parade and Concert, but we are making plans for a “virtual” commemoration and details on that will be coming later in the week.  Stay tuned!

If you are having trouble accessing relief services, or you’re experiencing other emergency needs, I urge you to reach out to me directly at mayor@fanwoodnj.org.  We are here to help.

– Mayor Colleen Mahr
