A Message from Mayor Mahr

Earlier today the state reported another 3,627 positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total to 54,588. The current total in Union County is 5,575. Below you will find an up-to-the-minute tracker of test results statewide.

While our Fanwood Community is not able to celebrate spring with our usual Easter Egg Hunt, the Easter Bunny did stop by Borough Hall to wish everyone a Hoppy Easter!

I hope everyone is able to find simple and safe ways to celebrate this weekend. I know the sacrifices we are making are difficult, but I applaud everyone’s commitment to fighting this outbreak and I know better days are ahead.  Please take a moment to listen to my video message, recorded earlier today.

We will be back on Monday with our regular daily blasts. On behalf of everyone at the Borough of Fanwood, we wish all of you a warm, safe, and healthy holiday weekend.
Thank you!

– Mayor Colleen Mahr

Update on Unemployment information

  • 214,000 new unemployment filings

  • We have been informed no one will be denied benefits.

  • The state is suggesting people try to access the system in every early morning or late evenings when there is less traffic on the site

  • The state is looking for volunteers to help with COBOL, the software used to power many systems; link for those interested in the recap

Good News in Hard Times

FLAG (front line appreciation group) of Scotch Plains-Fanwood is a local unit of the national FLAG movement.  The idea behind FLAG is to feed the heroes on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic while supporting local businesses.  So far the group has made six deliveries to three hospitals. Coming up next week, they have two deliveries to Trinitas and one to JFK in Edison. Donations are accepted through a variety of platforms. Learn more on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/SPFFLAG/.

Face Masks are Not a Substitute

We would like to remind ALL Fanwood residents that wearing a face mask in public is not a substitute for existing stay-at-home orders or social distancing protocol.

  • Avoid touching the front of the mask
  • Wash your hands before putting on the mask & again after removal

New Executive Orders Announced

  • All nonessential construction projects will cease effective 8 p.m. Friday

  • All essential retail businesses must indefinitely limit the number of customers to 50% of their approved capacity.
  • Customers and employees must wear face coverings, stores must install physical barriers between customers and employees whenever possible, and must regularly sanitize frequently used areas.

The third Executive Order increases weight limits on interstate highways from 40 tons to 46 tons for trucks carrying COVID relief supplies.
