The Fanwood Performance Series continues Oct. 19 with live music in traditional and modern folk styles.

Hailing from Alberta, Canada, Scott Cook and Pamela Mae spend most of their days touring almost incessantly across North America, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere, averaging 150 shows and a dozen summer festivals a year. Cook is a folk troubadour in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, writing and singing songs that ruminate on the human condition and are sprinkled with wry humor. He has released seven albums of plainspoken, keenly observant verse. Pamela Mae accompanies him on upright bass, banjo and vocals. Traveling in their camper van “Roadetta,” the duo average 150 shows and a dozen summer festivals a year.

Opening the show will be singer-songwriter Marc Douglas Berardo. Based in Rhode Island, Berardo uses his songs, humor and deft storytelling to mine the deep feelings and lessons gleaned from real-life characters and situations. His music has been recognized at many prestigious national festivals and events such as the Kerrville Folk Festival. His latest album, The Beauty of This Now, was released in May.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and showtime is 7:00 at Fanwood’s historic Carriage House, at 135 Watson Road, just west of Martine Avenue near Borough Hall. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors – cash at the door. Reservations are strongly suggested, as seating is limited. Music fans are urged to RSVP by emailing fanwoodperformance@gmail.com.

This fall’s season of the Fanwood Performance Series will conclude Nov. 19 with performances by Danni Nichols, a U.K. native whose musical home is in Nashville, and New Jersey’s own Matt Cook & The Heard.

The series, now in its 16th year, is a presentation of Mayor Colleen Mahr and the Fanwood Borough Cultural Arts Council. It is made possible in part by a HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of County Commissioners.
