Today, my heart is heavy and filled with sadness for America.  Our fellow Americans killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh were victims of religious hatred.  Our fellow Americans killed at a supermarket in Kentucky were victims of racial hatred. A mass assassination attempt on leaders of the Democratic Party were targeted by political hatred.

No one in America today should be afraid of random violence for any reason.  Today, I stand with our civic and religious communities to reject this evil and pray that Americans will renew their commitment to the freedoms enshrined in our founding documents.
