Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr joined neighboring mayors at a recent meeting with Governor Phil Murphy to discuss opportunities for shared services between municipalities. Mayor Mahr is a long-time advocate of cooperative agreements between towns to provide services at a cost savings for residents. This year, the mayor has met with Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle and Scotch Plains Mayor Al Smith to identify how the towns can benefit from sharing services and resources.

Currently, Fanwood’s Public Works Director provides supervisory services to Scotch Plains and Garwood. And, Board of Health services are provided through an agreement with Westfield’s Health Department.

According to Mayor Mahr, “Fanwood’s proximity to Scotch Plains and Westfield offers opportunities to explore opportunities to improve services for all of our residents and reduce our costs. We have a common goal of providing the quality services that our residents expect.”
