The Fanwood Performance Series wraps up its fall season with an evening of indie-alternative music from the Jersey Shore.

Matt Cook & The Heard is a five-piece band based in Asbury Park. Cook writes songs that range from melancholic to exuberant, drawing influence from artists including Brian Wilson and Ben Folds. He plays both as a solo artist and with The Heard, a band anchored in its members’ friendship and mutual admiration of one another’s musical endeavors.

The Heard includes multi-instrumentalist Bryan Hansen; bassist William Blakey, drummer Pete Stern and guitarist Tom Briant. All were among the musicians on Cook’s most recent album, “Album Number 5: Sessions,” and all play with other New Jersey bands. Hansen and Blakey are founding members of the Bryan Hansen Band, previously featured in the Fanwood Performance Series.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and showtime is 7:00 at Fanwood’s historic Carriage House, at 135 Watson Road, just west of Martine Avenue near Borough Hall. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors – cash at the door. Reservations are strongly suggested, as seating is limited. Music fans are urged to RSVP by emailing fanwoodperformance@gmail.com.

The Fanwood Performance Series is a presentation of Mayor Colleen Mahr and the Fanwood Borough Cultural Arts Council. It is made possible in part by a HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of County Commissioners.
