As we enter a new week of uncertainty, Governor Phil Murphy announced that there are now 2,844 cases of COVID-19 across the state of New Jersey. In Union County, we have seen the number jump to 189 positive cases. And, here in Fanwood, we have been notified by the Westfield Regional Health Department of 2 new Fanwood cases; both are men aged 42 and 51. Both cases are unrelated to each other, neither reported contact with a known case, and both are recovering at home.
I urge all our residents to keep these growing numbers in context – the growth is in part due to the state being able to accurately test unwell individuals. Over the weekend, Governor Murphy followed other states in implementing a stay-at-home order for all non-essential workers or employers. I ask everyone in the Fanwood community to continue supporting one another. Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors by phone, text, or email. I’d also like to thank all of the healthcare, emergency, and essential service workers who are selflessly reporting to work every day to fight this pandemic and provide critical services.

New Message Fanwood Department of Public Works
The Borough of Fanwood Department of Public Works reminds all residents that only toilet paper is permitted to be flushed down the toilet.
Other materials such as disinfecting, sanitizing, baby and “flushable” wipes should be discarded in regular household garbage and never flushed down the toilet as they do not break down and ultimately cause backups within the sanitary sewer system.

- Doctors can electronically send prescriptions directly to our pharmacy or call them in via phone.
- Fanwood Pharmacy will be open regular hours Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sunday 9am to 1pm to serve patients throughout these tough times.
New Message Fanwood Construction Office
Although the Borough Hall offices are closed to the public, we ask that you please follow the following procedure in order to conduct business with the Construction Office:
- Inspections will only be performed at the discretion of the Construction Official. Examples include decks, footings, foundation, and vacant structures.
- To schedule inspections, please call 908-322-5244 x129 and leave a message.
- Applications can be submitted by mail or left in the dropbox at 75 North Martine Ave. Incomplete applications will be returned. If you need guidance contact, Lisa Halloran, at lhalloran@fanwoodnj.org.
- Permits can be paid for by mail at the address listed below. Once received and processed the permit will be mailed to you.

Union County Testing Facility Open
Beginning today, the state’s first County-run, drive-through facility for testing of the COVID-19 virus is now open at Kean University. A release from Union County provided the following information:
“Please note that testing is by appointment only and you must be registered through your doctor or healthcare provider. Union County residents, Union County First Responders and essential personnel, who have been instructed by their doctor or healthcare provider to be tested for COVID-19, must be given a prescription and registered by their doctor or healthcare provider on a secure portal where they will receive an appointment for the drive-through. This is the only way to receive an appointment to be tested. For the safety, health, and security of the volunteers at the site, the testing location will not allow patients without vehicles to enter the campus, even with a valid prescription and appointment. If you do not have your own transportation, please discuss it with your healthcare provider before scheduling an appointment.”

Gov Announces Telehealth Services
Governor Phil Murphy today announced Departmental actions to expand access to telehealth and tele-mental health services in response to COVID-19 including both mental and physical health providers in their network.

Governor Murphy’s Executive Order states all residents must stay at home or at their place of residence unless they are leaving for the following reasons:
- Obtaining goods or services from essential retail businesses;
- Obtaining takeout or food beverages from restaurants;
- Seeking medical attention, essential social services, or assistance from law enforcement;
- Visiting family or close friends, caretakers, or romantic partners;
- Reporting to or performing their job;
- Walking, running, or engaging in outdoor activities with immediate family, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners;
- Leaving for an educational, religious, or political reason;
- Leaving because of a reasonable fear for health or safety; or
- Leaving at the direction of law enforcement or other government agency.
