(Fanwood, NJ) – The Mayor and Borough Council held an agenda meeting Tuesday night, September 2 at which the council introduced an ordinance and passed a dozen resolutions.
The council passed a resolution approving a contract with Halecon, Inc. Bridgewater, NJ for the resurfacing of the La Grande Park basketball courts. Mayor Colleen Mahr said the cost of the work is being offset by a state grant the Borough received last year. Resurfacing and improvements are also underway at the La Grande tennis courts.
A resolution was approved for the Borough to enter into a professional services agreement with T&M Associates for construction administration and inspection services for the resurfacing and other improvements underway at the LaGrande Park tennis courts.
A resolution was approved authorizing a contract with T&M Associates for engineering and survey services for Watson Road, Graybar Terrace, Waldon Road, and Kyte Place as part of this year’s road improvement program for which Fanwood received state grants.
The council approved a resolution granting permission to the Recreation Commission to serve beer on Borough property to runners over the age of 21 who participate in the Fanwood 5k Pizza Run & Family Fun Run on Sunday, October 19

The council introduced a bond ordinance for the preservation and restoration of the Historic Fanwood Train Station. The second reading and public hearing will be held at 7 pm on Monday, September 15. The Mayor said the cost of the project will be offset by a State grant.
During the public comments portion of the meeting, Milly Radetich of Third Street, an 11-year resident, requested that a schedule and time frame be set for cleaning the streets so that cars are not parked on roadways at that time.

Council President Patricia Walsh, the liaison to the Public Works Department which is responsible for street sweeping, said the DPW has put together a schedule for residential street sweeping in order to notify residents similar to what they do for snow removal on roads.
Mayor Mahr said the Borough has asked the county to help offset the cost for a pedestrian solar powered signal at Martine Avenue and Trenton Avenue now that the county has determined the sign is warranted as Martine Avenue is a county road.
The governing body will be presenting proclamations at the September 15 meeting for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
