The College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains welcomes Reyer Swaak to speak on his experiences as a teenager imprisoned for four years by the Japanese Army. He will also discuss the state of mind of the Japanese before and after the end the war as well as the emergence of Third World nationalism. The program will be held on October 24 at The Chelsea located at 295 South Ave, Fanwood, NJ. Refreshments will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the program will start at 7:45 p.m.
Born and raised in Indonesia, a Dutch colony prior to World War II, Swaak and his family spent almost 4 years living in a Japanese concentration camp and after the war returned to the Netherlands. Mr. Swaak will provide a unique perspective; both historical and personal of his life at that time in the Dutch East Indies. Mr. Swaak currently resides in Chatham, NJ.
