2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, imparting and protecting women the right to vote (though African American women were denied voting rights in many Southern states until 1965).  We can never forget this hard-fought battle led by brave and unyielding suffragists from across the country. As we stand upon their shoulders, it is our responsibility to ensure that women continue to be heard at every level of our government. In Fanwood, we are lucky to have the voices of four amazing women on our Borough Council including Erin McElroy Barker, Katherine Mitchell, Patricia Walsh, and Francine Glaser. I am thankful for the knowledge, perspective, and commitment that each of them brings to their role on the Borough Council, and as we mark the 125th Anniversary of Fanwood I know they will continue to serve our town’s best interests.

We are not alone in recognizing the great female leaders and business owners/entrepreneurs of Fanwood; News 12 chose to highlight Fanwood and its female businesses in a recent series.

As we reflect back on a century of progress, I would like to acknowledge the contributions of women in our Fanwood business community. These women play a vital role in making Fanwood a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive community. Please consider supporting them, and our entire Fanwood business community, as they move through these challenging economic times.
