(Fanwood, NJ)–One of Fanwood’s long-standing businesses, Scotchwood Florist, celebrates it’s 50th anniversary with a customer appreciation day this Saturday, October 22, 2022.

The South Avenue shop, owned and operated by Lori and Dale Flowers, began business in 1972 after Lori’s family, the DeMilts, purchased the former Crowder’s Home Ranch, a home and garden center.

The flower business enjoyed a boom in popularity during the 70s and 80s when FTD was just a wire service and flower shop owners did all business in person and over the phone. Today, online flower sales are huge and, in the case of Scotchwood, helped save their business during COVID.

Dale Flowers, reflecting on 50 years in Fanwood

“The website exploded,” says Dale Flowers. “It carried us through. And to this day it’s a major part of our daily business.”

Dale is a third generation florist, originally from Baltimore where his family had a shop for 60 years. He is used to the raised eyebrows caused by his last name calling it “one of life’s great coincidences.”

Flowers doesn’t hesitate to call his Fanwood business a success after 50 years and attributes the success to “Hard work and customer care. We care about what we’re selling to customers, and if that continues, people come back.”

Scotchwood Florist will have its customer appreciation day Saturday, October 22nd, with giveaways and specials.

“We want to thank the people of Fanwood for supporting us for 50 years,” he says.
