We would like to make our residents aware of two positive cases within the Borough of Fanwood. One is a 35-year-old female who self-reported herself yesterday. The other is a 54-year-old man. Both cases are unrelated and both are recovering at home, self-managing their symptoms without incident. Westfield Regional Health Department has interviewed both residents and will make contact with those individuals who came in contact with them.

As of 2 pm today, there were a total of 890 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state of New Jersey. There are 9 new cases in Union County for a total of 43 confirmed cases.

As expected, the number of confirmed cases is rising as testing capabilities increase.

“This should reinforce the need for social distancing, which is critical to the health and wellbeing of our community,” said Mayor Colleen Mahr. “Together we’ll get through this, but everyone has to do their part. We remind residents that anyone can be a carrier of the virus. Regardless of age or health, please consider the individuals around you and practice proper hygiene accordingly. We will come out of this a stronger community so long as we work together.”
Finally, we remind our residents of the CDC’s strong recommendation regarding social distancing – please maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and those around you, including family, friends, and neighbors.
For questions, we ask that you please contact the Westfield Regional Health Department at (908) 789-4040.

Unemployment Resources

Workers whose place of employment has closed, or whose hours have been cut, as a result of COVID-19 are, in all likelihood, eligible to receive either full or partial unemployment insurance, and the Governor is asking the federal government for assistance in ensuring that every unemployment insurance application is properly received and handled.  Unemployment resources are below.

If your job has been directly impacted, visit nj.gov/labor for comprehensive info from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

In addition, the State’s economic team is working alongside the U.S. Small Business Administration to ensure that available financial relief can flow into New Jersey as quickly and efficiently as possible.
