On March 18, the Fanwood Borough Council passed a resolution calling for the restoration of off-peak “one-seat ride” train service on the Raritan Valley Line. The resolution urges Governor Phil Murphy, DOT Commissioner Gutierrez-Scaccetti and state legislators to support the immediate restoration of the one-seat ride service during off peak hours.
NJ Transit’s midtown direct train service to Penn Station, otherwise known as “one-seat ride” service, has a significant and positive impact on the quality of life for Fanwood residents, home values and business growth. The service can reduce the off-peak commute time by up to 30 minutes each way. In 2018, when the off-peak one-seat ride service was first suspended, Mayor Colleen Mahr joined with neighboring mayors to create the Raritan Valley Line Mayors Alliance, a coalition of 32 mayors from four counties working to advocate for equitable services for the Raritan Valley Line.
A copy of the resolution has been sent to Governor Murphy, Fanwood’s Legislative Delegation, and NJ Transit.
