(Fanwood, NJ) – Mayor Colleen Mahr and the Borough Council presented proclamations at Monday’s Council meeting in recognition of Girl Scout Week and Women’s History Month.

In addition, Mayor Mahr presented a Certificate of Recognition to Eva Angel of Scotch Plains-Fanwood Girl Scouts Girl Scouts Troop 40346 for her initiative to help the Fanwood Memorial Library receive five bags filled with tools through a Home Depot corporate donation.

Joan Skubish, president; Trish Isack, scholarship chair, and Dorothy Lusk, vice president, of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains College Women’s Club were recognized as part the celebration of Women’s History Month.

Skubish said the club is starting its 93rd year. She said the club was founded in 1933 with the hope of giving women financial assistance for college.
Isack said the club’s goal is to “empower women in our community through education and scholarship.” Since the club’s first scholarship of $200 was awarded in 1936, over $844,000 has been awarded in scholarship money to 605 students. She said the club awarded $32,500 last year
to 13 recipients, which included three Fanwood residents.

Lusk said the club’s 2026 Spring Fundraiser Lunch, the club’s largest annual fundraiser, will be held on Sunday, April 26th at The Westwood in Garwood.
Lt. Dan Kranz, Officer in Charge of the Fanwood Police Department, presented the department’s annual report to the Mayor and Council. He said the department did 13,700 Computer Aided Dispatch Police (CAD) entries in 2025, an increase of 13% from the previous year. Motor vehicle stops were up 32% to 2,100 with 2,600 tickets issued, an increase of 200 percent.

The council approved a resolution to renew a shared services agreement with the City of Rahway for a Construction Code Official for another four years.
A resolution was approved for an affirmative marketing plan to advertise the availability of affordable housing units for low and moderate-income households in Fanwood.

Fanwood-Scotch Plains Girl Scouts from Brownies Troop 40246 lead the Mayor and Borough Council in the Pledge of Allegiance at the March 16th Council meeting.
