The Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood will host a February 24 evening program on Kramer Manor, a historic Black community in Fanwood and Scotch Plains that celebrated its centennial in 2024. Kramer Manor is also part of the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail. The program will feature Jill Jackson-Jones and longtime Kramer Manor residents, who will share how their families built and sustained this once all-Black enclave that has since evolved into a vibrant, multicultural neighborhood. The free program begins at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Shady Rest Country Club, itself a Black Heritage Trail site, and will explore the challenges and triumphs of the community’s early residents. The Kramer Manor history project is a collaborative effort supported by Social Justice Matters.
