Hayes is both an accomplished performer and a respected educator. He taught music in the
Newark Public School System for 38 years before retiring, leaving a lasting legacy of musical
excellence and mentorship.

Throughout his career, Hayes has performed in a wide range of musical settings with legendary
artists including Jimmy Heath, Cecil Payne, Rufus Reid, Ray Bryant, Ted Curson, Charles
Davis, Joe Lee Wilson, Ben Riley, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Cecil Brooks III, Steve Colson,
Pheeroan Aklaff, and Donald Braden. He also spent 15 years performing with Babatunde
Olatunji’s Drums of Passion Band, continuing until Olatunji’s passing. As a bandleader,
Hayes has released three albums, showcasing his deep artistry and command of the
saxophone.

Jazz broadcaster Dorothaan Kirk of WBGO-FM praised Hayes, saying, “Bradford is a musician
who deserves more recognition.”
