The Annual Fanny Wood Day street fair will be held on Sunday, September 15 from 10 am until 5 pm featuring over 120 vendors (including 20 food vendors), the return of WrestlePro, a Scavenger Hunt, bubble gum blowing, water balloon and spaghetti and meatball eating contests and live bands throughout the day.

“Fanny Wood Day is a family-fun event for everyone,” said Bruce Zakarin of the Fanwood Recreation Commission, now in his 16th year as the event’s organizer. “We do a whole bunch of contests and a main event at every Fanny Wood Day.”

An opening ceremony will take place at 11:30 am.

WrestlePro is the main attraction again this year and features a Meet and Greet, where families can have pictures taken with the professional wrestlers and get their autographs, and wrestling matches culminating with the Fanny Wood Day Gold Championship and the awarding of a genuine wrestling belt.

“We did it (WrestlePro) last year… and there was standing-room only as it was packed. It really drew the crowds and people had a wonderful time…it’s family-friendly wrestling,” Zakarin said.

He said the Scavenger Hunt features Fanwood businesses. Participants are given a list of clues and win prizes for finding the items.

“The idea is to promote Fanwood businesses,” Zakarin said.

A children’s Play Land featuring rides will be located at South Avenue Train Station Lot. The YMCA will also be offering kids’ activities.

“It’s literally a non-stop event,” Zakarin said.

Fanny Wood Day features three stages: a Main Stage, on the corner of Martine Avenue and South Avenue, where the Opening Ceremony, announcements and some of the contests take place; a County Stage, at LaGrande and Martine Avenues, where live bands will be featured throughout the day, and a Kids Stage at 2nd Street and South Avenue, located on the right side of the train station, featuring kids’ acts and performers.

Behind the Kids’ Stage will be a petting zoo, a new feature this year, and pony rides. The Borough’s fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles for kids to inspect will be located on 2nd Street between LaGrande and South Avenues.

Parking will be available behind stores on Martine Avenue between South and LaGrande Avenues as well as on-street parking.

Event sponsors are Unity Bank, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Dental Care, Lightbridge Academy, Carano Square, Provident Bank, and Fabio’s Bistro.
