Fanwood Police, Fire and Rescue did a drive-by celebration Saturday for the mother of a Fanwood resident who turned 100-years-old on May 12.

Mary Wroblewski was born in Newark to parents who were immigrants to the United States from Russia (father) and Austria (mother). She left high school to support her family and later earned her GED and working her way through beauty school. She was both a hairdresser and clerical worker in her life, retiring from PSE&G in 1989.

She is the mother of Bernadette Hoyer of Fanwood, a long-time member of the Fanwood Rescue Squad along with Bernadette’s late husband, Bob Hoyer. Mrs. Wroblewski, who resides in Scotch Plains, and enjoys reading, gardening, birdwatching and online shopping.
