Former Fanwood Councilwoman Joan I. Wheeler, passed away Sunday July 11 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY after a brief illness. Wheeler was born and raised in Succasunna before moving to Fanwood.
Wheeler was a member of the Fanwood Borough Council, the Fanwood Planning Board, The Historic Preservation Commission; and Fanwood Board of Health. She was also Vice Chair of the Cornish Heritage Society East; Soroptimist International; and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield. She contributed a great deal to the Fanwood community.
Wheeler was a registered nurse, she worked at Chilton Memorial Hospital, then as vice president of nursing at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, before accepting the position of Administrator at Runnells Specialized Hospital. She retired in 2013.
