Severe thunderstorms are expected to bring 3 to 5 inches of rain and damaging winds across parts of New Jersey today. Forecasters warn that large hail and an isolated tornado are also possible.
A flood watch is in effect for 15 counties from this afternoon through tonight. According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms could begin around noon, with the heaviest activity hitting between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Damaging wind gusts remain the primary threat.
Affected areas include Bergen, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, and Union counties, along with northwestern Burlington and western Monmouth.
