The Friends of the Fanwood Memorial Library 32nd Fall Book Sale generated $12,780, a record breaker. Much of the credit goes to the 78 volunteers who worked more than 600 hours sorting, selling, and cleaning up.

According to Volunteer Coordinator Sally Hogan, “It was an amazing turn out of volunteers who worked hard and long to make the sale successful for our library programs. It was tedious work but fun also to meet new people. The volunteers are to be congratulated for a wonderful job.”

Most volunteers reside in Fanwood, but many veteran organizers hail from Scotch Plains, Westfield, Cranford, and Plainfield. “The camaraderie during the sale is pretty amazing,” commented Friends President Carol Campell. “And we also enjoy a good after-party, which I like to host in October to show this hard-working crew just how grateful we all are for their contribution to our community.”

All the money raised by the Friends goes to the library. MuseumPass, Summer Reading, and music concerts are just some of the many Friends programs that enrich community life. Equipment, furniture, and start-up collections of DVDs and e-books are also paid for by the Friends as a result of volunteers’ efforts and membership drives.
