If you are looking for a truly rewarding volunteer experience, our visiting volunteers are a special group of individuals who provide direct (nonmedical) support services to our palliative care and hospice patients and their families in our Elizabeth and Scotch Plains facilities, as well as throughout Union County. They work alongside our clinical professionals to help enhance a patient’s quality of life. 

Are you nervous or unsure what to expect? No need to worry. We will guide you through the process by training and mentorship. Some people hear the word hospice and feel it is sad. We see it differently. It is an opportunity to be a companion and accompany someone through their journey. Many of our patients like to participate in activities, games and special events, as well as having someone to talk to. 

Did you know that Medicare finds it so important and necessary that they have a requirement to use volunteers for 5% of care hours? Their reasons: Volunteers are an extension of staff providing additional support to families, they can offer specialized skills, they provide comfort for those without family, they can free up staff to complete their duties.
