A Message from Mayor Mahr

Earlier today, the state reported another 1,453 COVID-19 positive test results, bringing the statewide total to 139,945. Union County currently has a total of 14,164 confirmed cases and as of publication. The Westfield Regional Board of Health has confirmed that Fanwood currently has 85 positive cases. The Westfield Regional Board of Health has not provided us with new case numbers, so we will provide an update tomorrow.

Today’s hospital data showed continued downward trends and tomorrow Governor Murphy is expected to discuss the state’s contact tracing and testing plans.

As we face another week of stay-at-home I know many of you must be frustrated by the ongoing limits on our activity.  However, your continued cooperation is vital to maintaining the success we’ve had so far in holding the infection rate down.  All levels of New Jersey government are studying how best to return to our places of work and play, and I believe it will be a gradual process.  For now, we must stay strong and continue to observe best practices of frequent hand-washing, wearing masks, and keeping a distance.

If you are having trouble accessing relief services, or you’re experiencing other emergency needs, I urge you to reach out to me directly at mayor@fanwoodnj.org.  We are here to help.

– Mayor Colleen Mahr

Rotary donates masks to Chelsea Senior Living

Many thanks to the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Club for their donation of 75 hand-made masks to Chelsea Senior Living. Rotary past president Denise Hughes stopped by the corporate headquarters in Fanwood today to present them to Chelsea president Roger Bernier. Rotary members have made thousands of these masks and donated them to local senior centers, first responders, the homeless, and the El Centro community center in Plainfield.

Thanks, Rotarians!
