A Message from Mayor Mahr

Today, the state reported another 356 COVID-19 positive test results, bringing the statewide total to 164,497. Union County currently has a total of 16,241 confirmed cases. According to the Westfield Regional Health Department, Fanwood’s number stands at 95 cases.

On Saturday I was proud to march with the Black Student Alumni of Scotch Plains/Fanwood to support the idea of equal justice for all.  These impassioned young people were eloquent in their call for equal treatment, expressing the minute-by-minute anxiety of being black in America.

With protests continuing worldwide over the weekend, this movement is growing every day.  The Joint Committee on Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation of Scotch Plains and Fanwood has scheduled a “Listening Tour” on Wednesday, June 10 at 7 PM in order to broaden our discussions and hear from you.  Below you can find the call-in and login information.  I hope people from all backgrounds, will participate so we can move forward together to create the world we all deserve. The event will also be live-streamed on Facebook and aired on local TV.  Once those details are finalized you will find them on our website homepage at www.fanwoodnj.org.

The Governor’s Office announced today that Municipal and private-club swimming pools will be permitted to reopen on Monday, June 22. Additionally, the NJ Department of Health will release full guidance tomorrow relating to the procedures and protocols that will need to be followed.

And as ever, whether during the pandemic or another time of need, we are here to help. If you need assistance with food insecurity, illness, or unemployment issues, please reach out at mayor@fanwoodnj.org.
