A Message from Mayor Mahr
Earlier today, the state reported another 3,643 confirmed COVID-positive test results, bringing the statewide total to 92,387. The current total in Union County is 10,289 with 61 total in Fanwood.
I’d like to remind all residents that Borough staff are on the job and accessible through e-mail or by phone, at (908) 322 8236. You’ll find our Contacts list here, https://fanwoodnj.org/contact/.
Administrative offices such as the Mayor’s Office, Tax, Registrar, Bookkeeping, Construction, Zoning, and Purchasing are alternating their work between home and office, with staggered hours so as to avoid contact with one another. Public Works is also staggering their shifts, while the Police Department is staffing as usual, but are making every effort to follow social distancing guidelines while keeping residents safe.
Municipal Court sessions are closed until further notice, but all fines can be paid online at njcourts.judiciary.state.nj.us.
The Planning Board’s next meeting will be held on May 27 and instructions will follow for the public to participate electronically.
Again, I’d like to remind our entire community that if you are in need of assistance or have assistance to offer, please contact me directly at mayor@fanwoodnj.org.

An Update from Senator Menendez
Senator Bob Menendez shared the news that yesterday, a $500 billion proposal to support State and Local government was in the works. The Legislation is formulated so that the states hardest-hit will receive the money they need – NJ is #2 in the country for COVID-19 cases.
These funds will be split into 3 tranches, each of which will be roughly $166 Billion:
- Money for states in proportion to the percentage of US Population, with a 45% carve-out for some county and local governments with populations of 50,000 or more.
- Money allocated to states based on the share of the national infection rate; this tranche does not include any money going directly to county and local government.
- Money allocated to fill revenue shortfalls from February 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020.
Towns with populations lower than 50K must rely on County and State government to address funding needs.
This legislation is not yet signed.
