A Message from Mayor Mahr

We have learned from the Westfield Regional Board of Health Department that Fanwood now has a total of 37 confirmed cases. I am saddened to report one more additional fatality. Our total number of deaths in Fanwood is now at 3. Please keep the families of these individuals in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time knowing they are unable to gather for funerals, memorials, and other group commemorations to honor those lost lives.

The most recent fatality lived at The Chelsea. As you know the rates of infection and COVID-19 related deaths are of concern withing long term care centers across the country. Our Health Department is in daily contact with the management to offer ongoing guidance and track outbreaks. In addition, our Police and Office of Emergency Management are also in contact with the management and staff and are ready to offer assistance. We are here to help all our residents through this difficult time.

Earlier today the state reported another 4,059 positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total to 68,824. The current total in Union County is 7,265. Fanwood has seen 37 confirmed cases and sadly, three deaths. Below you will find an up-to-the-minute tracker of test results statewide.

I want to express my sincerest gratitude to all Fanwood residents. You have been wonderful throughout the pandemic and it has been your good faith efforts in social distancing that is helping keep COVID-19 from spiking more than it has to date.

Keep up the good work! Please continue to act responsibly for your sake and the sake of our community.

– Mayor Colleen Mahr

Good News in Hard Times

Shout out to Fanwood resident Greg Cummings, who graciously offered his Fanwood home to an ICU nurse at Overlook Hospital. Her heavy workload made commuting to her Sussex County home a burden. Thanks to Greg’s generosity the nurse is able to get much-needed rest and return to her duties refreshed and ready for the challenges of caring for her seriously ill patients. Thank you, Greg!

New Executive Orders Announced

Today, Governor Murphy signed into action the following for New Jersey residents and businesses:

  • Prohibiting Internet and phone services from being shut off until 30 days after our current public health emergency has ended;
  • Prohibiting all service downgrades, service reductions, or late fees due to non-payment unless they are imposed in accordance with a policy approved by the Board of Public Utilities; and
  • Requiring reconnection of any Internet or phone service that was disconnected due to non-payment after March 16.

COVID-19 Regional Advisory Council

Recognizing that their states have one integrated regional economy, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Delaware Governor John Carney, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, and Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo announced the creation of a multi-state council to restore the economy and get people back to work. This announcement builds on the states’ ongoing regional approach to combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The coordinating group – comprised of one health expert, one economic development expert and the respective Chief of Staff from each state — will work together to develop a fully integrated regional framework to gradually lift the states’ stay at home orders while minimizing the risk of increased spread of the virus.

The council will create this framework using every tool available to accomplish the goal of easing social isolation without triggering renewed spread – including testing, contact tracing, treatment and social distancing – and will rely on the best available scientific, statistical, social and economic information to manage and evaluate those tools.

  • Avoid touching the front of the mask
  • Wash your hands before putting on the mask & again after removal
  • Store the mask in a paper bag
  • Cloth masks are not recommended for children under two
