Fanwood is proud to announce we have met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey Bronze Certification. This makes Fanwood one of just 55 New Jersey towns that have attained this certification in 2020. Certified towns are considered an outstanding group of municipalities that are making important contributions toward the long-term goal of a sustainable NJ and world.
To become Sustainable Jersey bronze certified, Fanwood’s Green Team had to complete a balance of the program’s sustainability actions and accumulate 150 points. These items included:
- Create Green Team- 10 Points
- Extreme Temperature Event Plan- 10 Points
- Green Business Recognition Program- 10 Points
- Natural Resource Inventory – 20 Points
- Environmental Commission- 10 Points
- Environmental Commission Site Plan Review – 10 Points
- Tree Protection Ordinance – 10 Points
- Municipal Communications Strategy – 10 Points
- Digitizing Public Information – 10 Points
- Prescription Drug Safety and Disposal – 10 Points
- Community Paper Shredding Day – 5 Points
- Household Hazardous Waste- 15 Points
- Non-Mandated Materials Recycling- 15 Points
- Grass – Cut It and Leave It Program – 5 Points

In addition to making Fanwood a healthier and more sustainable place to live, the recertification keeps Fanwood eligible for the Sustainable Jersey Grants Program, and additional training and tools.
