Fanwood families turned out for the Party in the Park, rescheduled because of last week’s poor weather, and there were old and new attractions this year at the event’s usual site, LaGrande Park.
New was a pillow case race sponsored by Fanwood’s Shovlin Mattress Company. Owner Ron Shovlin and his staff signed up racers at their tent and ran the whole event. It was great fun for the kids, all of whom got prizes at the end.
Family Martial Arts conducted a karate demonstration and the YMCA hosted kid crafts in the park pavilion. Rides including a bounce house, obstacle course, giant slide and train provided plenty to do.
Members of the Fanwood Recreation Commission, which conducted the event, dished out hot dogs and cold drinks. Commissioner Bruce Zakarin was the emcee for the evening.
The Party in the Park is the usual launch of the Fanwood summer movie series. Tonight’s feature was Minions. There will be a movie scheduled outdoors in LaGrande Park every Tuesday night at dusk through August.
Thanks to the Recreation Commission, Department of Public Works, Fanwood Police and Rescue Squad and Councilwoman Trisha Walsh for participating.
