(Fanwood, NJ) – After last year’s cancellation of Memorial Day ceremonies, sunny skies greeted attendees at Monday’s 9 am program on the lawn of the Fanwood Memorial Library. Mayor Colleen Mahr asked everyone to thank a veteran and asked veterans to raise their hands so they could be acknowledged. She than welcomed dignitaries who were in attendance.

In his brief remarks, Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshal Gregory Ruffa said we should all pay our respects to both those who did not return from war as well those who did come home.

Denise Sherwood gifted the library books in honor of her father as well as World War II veterans. Her father, Ed Miller, was World War II veteran, a Memorial Day Grand Marshal, and a 60-year borough resident.

Memorial wreaths were laid in front of the library by VFW Post 10122, American Legion Post 209, the Fanwood Police Department, Fanwood Fire Department, and the Fanwood Rescue Squad.

The Memorial Parade followed starting at 10:45 am on Park Avenue in Scotch Plains to Martine Avenue through the Fanwood business district before ending at La Grande Park at around 12:30 pm.
