A Message from Mayor Mahr

As we come to the end of our second week of living our “new normal,” I think I speak for so many of us in saying we are glad to see the weekend again. Our lives and daily routines have been turned upside down and we all are trying to navigate the best we can while ensuring our loved ones are physically and mentally well.

I want to thank so many of you that have listened to the call for intensive social distancing and limited contact with people outside your family, which I know is easier said than done.

As a mother to a 7th, 9th and 11th grader let’s give all of us who have made it through week 2 of home schooling some credit for getting at least some or most of it done! I know for the parents who are home balancing school and work it is no easy task.

To anyone who has lost their job and are filing for unemployment please know you are not alone in this and I extend any help in making sure you sure get through the process successfully.

And to anyone who is struggling with isolation, anxiety and fear of the unknown, please know help and someone to connect with is just a phone call away. 2-1-1 warm lines offer person-to-person non-emergency assistance and I encourage you to take advantage of it if you need to.

What makes Fanwood an amazing place to call home is our sense of community. And while we are now navigating being “together, apart” I know we will come out the other side of this together and stronger.

Please check on your elderly and vulnerable neighbors with a phone call or from an appropriate distance. Police Chief Trigo and his department are available to do well visit checks to ensure everyone is OK.

I hope you find these daily messages helpful. We are in this together and we will come out on the other side of this, together.

The Borough Council and I are here for you and I am just an email away mayor@fanwoodnj.org. I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Until then, stay home, wash your hands and help flatten the curve.

-Mayor Colleen Mahr

NJEDA Announces new Small Business Support
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) Board today approved a suite of new programs designed to support businesses and workers facing economic hardship due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

The package of initiatives includes a grant program for small businesses, a zero-interest loan program for mid-size companies, support for private-sector lenders and Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs), funding for entrepreneurs, and a variety of resources providing technical support and marketplace information.

Taken together, they will provide more than $75 million of state and private financial support, with the opportunity to grow to more than $100 million if additional philanthropic, State, and federal resources become available. The initiatives will support between 3,000 and 5,000 small and midsize enterprises and are meant to complement recently announced federal economic recovery initiatives. More information about the programs will be available here.

Recycling Update
Due to the Coronavirus, PMUA has amended its pick-up schedules temporarily. Recycling will be collected in Fanwood on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, and Wednesday, April 15, 2020. The recycling collection change to every other Wednesday will continue for the time being during this unprecedented crisis.

Please remember to place your containers curbside the night before (Tuesday night). Again, this is only temporary, and if you should have any questions please call PMUA customer service at 908-226-2518.

Thank you for your patience.
