Fanwood neighbors and Council members turned out tonight for a ceremonial lighting of a giant Menorah to celebrate Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights.
Rabbi Avrohom Blesofsky of The Chabad of Union County officiated, injecting great energy into the small gathering at the North Avenue side of the train station where the Menorah stands. He was accompanied by a keyboardist and was assisted in lighting the candles by Councilman Jeff Banks and Councilwoman Francine Glaser.
“May we all have miracles, large and small,” he shouted before launching into a spirited rendition of I Have a Little Dreidel and encouraging the children in attendance to sing and dance along with him. Donuts were served, a traditional Hanukkah treats in commemoration of the miracle associated with the Temple oil that burned for eight days.
