Dear Fanwood Residents,

American Water and Elizabethtown Gas are investing millions of dollars into Borough infrastructure which is a benefit to us all. However, due to the scope of these projects, we have all been experiencing the inconvenience of road closings and bumpy roads for several years.

The utilities are only obliged to patch the site when they cut a hole in the street; however Fanwood borough engineers have negotiated with the utilities to do more. The utilities will pave to their maximum allowable extent, which in most cases means half the roadway. This work is done at their own expense and to date, over $1 million has been invested in local paving.

Once all of the utility work and paving is complete, borough engineers will perform a needs assessment of all borough roads for safety and rideability. Where conditions demand and funding is available, the borough will do further paving.

As we move into the closing months of these projects and commence widespread paving, I ask for your continued patience.

-Mayor Colleen Mahr

Detours

Fanwood Police will issue notices on road closures and detours.  Please subscribe to their mailing list at www.fanwoodpolice.org in order to receive the updates.  Chief Trigo asks that you observe posted parking restrictions.

Borough Paving Schedule

Summer into fall, the Borough will be doing road reconstruction on Madison Avenue and Paterson Road (from Terrill Road to Hunter Avenue). North Avenue will be paved for the entire length, once Elizabethtown Gas has completed all gas main upgrades.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while these important utility infrastructure upgrades are being made.
