FANWOOD, NJ – As Fanwood Memorial Library approaches the one-year anniversary of its new building next month, members of the community gathered on Saturday, August 16, to dedicate the Quraishi Family Community Room in memory of Dr. Nisar A. Quraishi, a beloved longtime physician and resident of Fanwood.

The dedication was attended by immediate family members, including Dr. Nisar’s wife Mrs. Shahida P. Quraishi and son Hon. Zahid N. Quraishi, who celebrated Dr. Quraishi’s enduring legacy in the community he served for so many years.

A transformational gift in memory of Dr. Quraishi to the newly formed Fanwood Memorial Library Foundation contributed to the establishment of a new endowment that will provide ongoing support for the Library’s programs and services each year.

“It has been wonderful to work with the Foundation to honor my father’s commitment to education and ensure the library can be a first-class resource for generations to come,” said the Hon. Zahid N. Quraishi, a U.S. District Judge for New Jersey who recognizes the influence that his parents’ commitment to academics and helping others in his hometown of Fanwood had on his own journey.

The Quraishis are among a group of families who have contributed to the Foundation’s endowment to date, in recognition of the Library as a vital educational resource with great potential to enrich generations of Fanwood residents.

“It is so rewarding to contribute to strengthening a library that has meant so much to its community,” said Foundation President Michele Saliola. “Talking with families about how much they benefit from the activities and staff support here is a powerful reminder that reading and learning new things enrich all our lives.”
