The Fanwood Borough Council adopted on first reading an ordinance creating four parking spaces reserved for veterans.
The idea was first suggested last month and the goal is to have the spaces created by Veterans Day. Two spaces will be created in the municipal parking lot behind the South Avenue stores. The other two will be created at Borough Hall. All will be marked by signs.
The ordinance was introduced at the September 19th Council meeting. It will be the subject of a public hearing on October 17.
The news comes the same week the Borough is launching a new page on its website devoted to veterans news, services and resources, https://fanwoodnj.org/we-value-our-vets/ .

Councilwomen Erin McElroy Barker and Kathy Mitchell

In other news, Councilwoman Kathy Mitchell announced a program is in the works to recruit volunteers to rake leaves for senior citizens on a weekend in November. Details will be released soon. Also, flu shots will be available at the regular meeting of the Fanwood Seniors Club Monday, September 26th, 10:30 AM at Forest Road Park. All residents, not just members of the Seniors Club, may receive the shots.

Clint Dicksen

Public Works Director Clint Dicksen reported that the town’s Wednesday recycling program has been working well with few complaints. The vendor, Grand Sanitation, has been working with a temporary contract until the Borough can solicit bids for a permanent vendor. The Council passed a resolution authorizing the solicitation of bids.
