Fanwood’s delayed Arbor Day observance occurred on Thursday, May 3rd, in Carriage House Park off Watson Road. A beautiful day greeted the Fanwood Shade Tree Commission, members of Council and the Park Middle School Environmental Club, who conducted an educational program on global warming and tree mulching. For the 25th consecutive year, Fanwood was designated a Tree City USA, a national program that acknowledges communities that pay special attention to trees and recognize their value. Also recognized were the winners of a national poetry contest, one of whom was our own Dean Talcott. Thanks to Shade Tree Commission Chairman Steve Falco, Commission volunteers Adele Kenny, Tom Plante and Dean Talcott, Cub Scout Pack 4, the Fanwood Rescue Squad and Borough Council members Kathy Mitchell and Tom Kranz for attending. The event was postponed from April 27th due to inclement weather.

The Fanwood Arts Council and the Fanwood Shade Tree Commission are happy to announce the winners of the 2018 Carriage House Poetry Prize, judged by poet, novelist, and publisher Donna Baier Stein
