Road repairs totaling more than $1.2 million were approved tonight at the regular August meeting of the Fanwood Borough Council.
Borough Engineer Antonios Panagopoulos announced the majority of the money will come from two state grants totaling more than $900,000 dollars. Projects include:
- Paving and curbing of Ranier Road and a portion of Glenwood Road from Midway Avenue to about 60 Glenwood
- Paving and curbing of Tillotson Road from Westfield Road to the dead end
- Extending the sidewalk and curbing on Coriell Avenue to the end of the street at Kyte Place
Panagopoulos also said ongoing lighting issues in the municipal parking lot behind Fanwood Crossing will be resolved with temporary solar lights while PSE&G fixes an underground wiring problem that has darkened the permanent lights.
In other Council business, Fanwood resident and Air Force Reservist Oshanda Erb announced new initiatives to benefit Fanwood veterans including a proposal to create parking spaces for vets in the municipal lot and create a page on the Borough website with resources and events benefitting local veterans. The goal is to have the programs up and running by Veterans Day. Borough Attorney Russ Huegel said the Borough parking ordinance would have to be amended to accommodate spaces earmarked for vets. Mayor Colleen Mahr believed it could easily be accomplished by Veterans Day.
Lt. Dan Kranz, officer in charge of the Fanwood Police Department, reminded all that bike helmets are required by law for riders aged 14 and under. He addressed a resident who voiced concern for the safety of unhelmeted children riding bikes on her street.
