During Black History Month we are recognizing those individuals and organizations with Fanwood roots or in the Fanwood-Scotch Plains community who are or have made a difference. This week we are recognizing Savory Selections Catering, which was established in 2009.

Savory’s owners, Felton Jones and Jill Jackson Jones, set out to bring their family food traditions to the community in which they grew up. Jill grew up in the Kramer Manor section of Fanwood, while Felton was raised in the “the Peaks” section of Scotch Plains.

Felton wanted to stay entrenched in the community as a FSPY Youth Basketball Coach, while being available for their son Ryan’s activities. Felton, Jill and Ryan are all Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School graduates.

It was the opportunities that were presented to them by Mayor Colleen Mahr to cater the annual Fanwood Reorganization Meetings and highlighting their business at Ladies Night for a number of years that provided the exposure they needed.

Eventually they were prepared to move the business to the next level and after working out of local kitchens and churches for over quite some time, they decided to seek space to run the business.

After facing numerous challenges with retaining brick and mortar space within Scotch Plains and Fanwood, an opportunity was presented in 2022 to them to operate from the old Roti Shop at 1731 East Second Street in Scotch Plains.

Savory Selections Catering and Pop-Up Restaurant offers traditional comfort food. Their dishes are inspired by the flavorful meals enjoyed by generations. As long-time residents of Scotch Plains and Fanwood, the Jones are deeply rooted in the community. Through their love of food, they aim to bring everyone together around the table.

Savory offers full-service catering whether it’s a family dinner, wedding, birthday, church event, or community gathering. They create customized menus for every event.
