After being absent last year due to the pandemic, Fanwood’s Halloween Parade and costume contest returned in all its glory this evening, filling the streets of downtown and LaGrande Park with local ghosts, goblins, princesses, and superheroes.
The Fanwood Recreation Commission organized the event, which included free giveaways such as light sticks and flashing glasses. The parade started at the Fanwood Library and proceeded to LaGrande Park, escorted by the police and fire departments and the rescue squad. Young and old alike donned fantastic costumes, even mini-floats. The parade was kicked off and led by Councilmen Jeff Banks and Anthony Carter.
At LaGrande Park, cider and donuts were served by Recreation Commissioners, volunteers, and Mayor Colleen Mahr. The costume contest was held in the circle, emceed by Recreation Commissioner Bruce Zakarin. The kids could watch themselves on a giant TV screen.
