The Westfield Regional Health Department has determined that the officer’s interaction with the public was minimal and there is no risk to the general public as a result of this case.

As of Tuesday, March 17, there have been 89 new confirmed positive cases of the virus reported, bringing the statewide total to 267; among those, 15 are in Union County. At this time, all residents should continue to adhere to Governor Phil Murphy’s executive order and practice the safety and health recommendations put forth by the Westfield Regional Health Department, State of New Jersey, and the CDC. It is stressed that if you do not feel well to stay home and contact your health provider.

“This should reinforce the need for social distancing, which is critical to the health and wellbeing of our community,” said Mayor Colleen Mahr. “Together we’ll get through this, but everyone has to do their part. We remind residents that anyone can be a carrier of the virus. Regardless of age or health, please consider the individuals around you and practice proper hygiene accordingly. We will come out of this a stronger community so long as we work together.”

Finally, we remind our residents of the CDC’s strong recommendation regarding social distancing – please maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and those around you, including family, friends, and neighbors.

For questions, we ask that you please contact the Westfield Regional Health Department at (908) 789-4040.
