The Fanwood Borough Council honored a number of people who contribute valuable services to our community during its August 20th regular meeting.

Matthew Juckes, Chairman of the Planning Board, was named Volunteer of the Month by Mayor Mahr and the Council. Matthew moved to Fanwood from Canada in 2010 and almost immediately became involved in the community. A transportation and planning engineer by trade, Matt has volunteered countless hours on one of our most high-profile boards. He received the traditional print of the historic Fanwood train station from Mayor Colleen Mahr.

The Mayor and Council issued a proclamation supporting CASA. Since 2005, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Union County has been recruiting, training, supervising and supporting community volunteers to advocate for abused, neglected and abandoned children placed in foster homes or residential facilities. CASA volunteers ensure children’s best interests remain the priority while working toward establishing a safe, stable and permanent home for each child served. Receiving the proclamation from Mayor Mahr was Marla Higginbotham, Executive Director of CASA.

August 20th was proclaimed Chelsea at Fanwood Day, honoring the Chelsea’s national award for Best Assisted Living Week Program for 2017 from NCAL, the National Center for Assisted Living. Representing the Chelsea was Executive Director Annette Watson and Lifestyle Director Jane Pritsker. The Chelsea, a 21 year business and the largest single employer in Fanwood, has been not only an excellent retirement home for seniors but a center for community activity and fundraising.

The Borough Council also gave final approval for the contract to repave and install sidewalks on Madison Avenue and to the contract for the company that will do the town-wide tax revaluation, a process that will begin in September.
