The Fanwood Borough Council recognized the following people tonight at its regular monthly meeting, April 16, 2018:

1. Volunteer of the Month—Himanee Hendre, 16, student at the Scotch Plains Magnet School, who has given her time for several years to the Fanwood Recreation Commission with event planning and carrying out events. She received a print of Fanwood’s historic train station from Mayor Colleen Mahr

2. Mobile Meals 50th Anniversary—Mobile Meals, based in Westfield, delivers meals to thousands of area residents every day. They passed their one millionth meal delivery several years ago. Mayor Colleen Mahr read a resolution acknowledging Mobile Meals and presented it to volunteers Nancy Otchy (glasses) and Joesphine Walsh.

3. Autism Awareness Month—In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, Scott Matthews, Executive Director of Intensive Therapeutics in Fanwood, spoke to the Council. Intensive Therapeutics offers various programs for children with autism and other disabilities and is the recipient of the ROID Grant (Recreational Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities). ROID Grants facilitate inclusion in recreation and sports programs for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Scott was accompanied by a student tennis instructor, Nirmit Damania, 17, a senior at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High.

The Council also passed an ordinance creating a sewer utility to begin a program of sewer maintenance and a resolution that approved a shared services agreement with Union County to install a crossing warning light at LaGrande Avenue at 2nd Street.
