This week we celebrate Shavanne Williams-Robinson, of Fanwood, as a Black business owner whose story reflects courage, cultural pride, and a commitment to uplifting families — one smile at a time. Shavanne is the owner of Speak Eat Smile Therapy, a New Jersey-based practice that provides individualized speech-language, feeding, myofunctional, and lactation therapy for babies, children, and adults. What makes Speak Eat Smile special is the belief that therapy should feel personal, engaging, and family-centered — not clinical and cold. From in-home sessions to flexible scheduling, evidence-based, and play-based approaches, the goal is simple: help families feel supported while children gain the confidence to communicate, eat, and thrive.
Shavanne earned her master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from Columbia University and holds a certificate of clinical competency from America Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). She is licensed to practice Speech-Language Pathology in both New Jersey and New York and holds a certification as a teacher of students with speech and language disabilities (TSSLD).
Originally from Jamaica, she moved to the United States in 2010, bringing with her a deep appreciation for culture, family, and perseverance. As the daughter of a Black mother and an Indian father, she proudly embodies a rich, blended heritage that shapes how she connects with the diverse families she serves today. Now living in the area with her own family, she understands firsthand the real-life juggling act parents face — which is why her services are designed to meet families where they are, literally and emotionally.
Through Speak Eat Smile Therapy, Shavanne has created more than a business — she’s created a safe space where children are celebrated, parents are empowered, and progress is joyful. Whether helping a child say their first words, guiding a parent through feeding challenges, or supporting breastfeeding journeys, her work changes everyday lives in meaningful ways.
