The annual Shop Small Saturday festivities brought eager shoppers to downtown Fanwood Saturday, November 26th. A brisk but sunny day brought seasonal good cheer to the Martine and South Avenue shopping district. A “welcome table” was established at the plaza next to the Railside Café. Mayor Colleen Mahr and officials of the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce gave out free shopping bags, coffee and raffle tickets.
Stores including Duke’s Pet Den, Enchantments, Scotchwood Florist and the Blowout Lab offered discounts on goods and services. Mike Doyle provided live entertainment. The Fanwood Larder hosted the SPFHS DECA chapter for “Raid the Larder.”@spfhsdeca teaches high schoolers all about entrepreneurship, marketing, and skills to be leaders. Ten-percent of sales went towards DECA’s State Community Service Project (NJ Covenant House), and DECA merchandise was be for sale.
“We really love our small businesses,” said Mayor Mahr. “They really give back all year around to us, so this is the season for us to shop small.”
