This year’s Juneteenth community celebration promises to be bigger and better than ever with events and activities for all ages, but especially children and families. Held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, 1-8 PM at the Shady Rest Golf and Country Club on Jerusalem Road and Plainfield Avenue, Scotch Plains. Here are the highlights:

    Juneteenth Freedom Award honorees: Malcolm E. Nettingham, Tuskegee Airman and community pillar, award to be accepted by his family; Anna and Charles Booker, Civil Rights Activists; and Sylvia Hicks, Community Activist.

  • Family Collage workshops (register below)
  • DJ during the day
  • Martial arts demonstration
  • Music from 6-8PM by Amani
  • Children’s carnival games with small prizes
  • Mini-golf, putting contests with prizes
  • Bubble blowing and sidewalk chalk art
  • Balloon artist from 4P-5P
  • Food and ice cream trucks
  • Vendor tables: Hot sauce, jams, jewelry, purses, Juneteenth items

Free parking will be along Plainfield Ave, in the neighborhoods and in the Jerseyland Park lot across the street from Shady Rest. Police will assist with street crossing.
